4 Day Tour: Ashgabat – Darvaza – Kow Ata
A perfectly balanced 4-day journey through Turkmenistan's capital, desert, and nature. Explore the white-marble city of Ashgabat with its carpet museum, Neutrality Arch and the UNESCO-listed Nisa ruins, then cross the Karakum Desert to the burning Darvaza Gas Crater, known as the "Door to Hell." Enjoy a barbecue dinner under the stars, an overnight stay in traditional Turkmen yurts, and a relaxing swim in the thermal waters of the Kow Ata underground lake.

DAY BY DAY
Day 1 — Bajgiran Border (Iran) → Ashgabat → City Tour
Your guide meets you at the Bajgiran border crossing with Iran and transfers you about 45 km (roughly one hour) to your Ashgabat hotel. After time to settle in, you set out on a tour of the marble capital, taking in the National Museum, the Neutrality and Independence monuments and the grand white-marble boulevards, with lunch at a national restaurant. Overnight in Ashgabat.
Day 2 — Ashgabat → Darvaza Gas Crater
Morning city tour of Ashgabat as requested, followed by an afternoon departure to Darvaza (271 km, approximately 3.5 hours). Arrive by sunset to witness the famous "Door to Hell," a fiery crater glowing in the heart of the Karakum Desert. Dinner and an overnight stay in traditional yurts near the crater.
Day 3 — Darvaza → Kow Ata → Ashgabat
Breakfast at the crater, then drive back toward Ashgabat (300 km, approximately 5 hours) with stops at the water and mud craters along the way. After lunch in Ashgabat, visit the Kow Ata underground lake, a cave with 41°C thermal water perfect for a swim. Enjoy a barbecue near the lake before returning to the city for an evening tour of the Eternal Flame, the Neutrality Monument and the Alem Entertainment Center. Overnight in Ashgabat.
Day 4 — Ashgabat → Bajgiran Border (Iran)
After breakfast you enjoy any final sights or last-minute shopping in Ashgabat — the Tolkuchka (Altyn Asyr) Bazaar is ideal for carpets and souvenirs. You are then transferred about 45 km (roughly one hour) to the Bajgiran border crossing for exit formalities into Iran. End of services at the Bajgiran border.
