5-Day Turkmenistan Tour: Farab, Merv, Turkmenbashi, Yangykala, Darvaza, Ashgabat
This 5-day Turkmenistan tour blends history, nature, and adventure. Begin at the Farab border and explore ancient Merv, a former Silk Road capital, before reaching the white-marble city of Ashgabat. Travel west to Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea, stopping at the Kov-Ata underground lake and the mountain village of Nokhur. Marvel at the colorful Yangykala Canyon and finish with the blazing Darvaza Gas Crater at sunset, with dinner and an overnight stay in traditional yurts.
DAY BY DAY
Day 1 — Farab - Merv - Ashgabat
Meet your guide at the Farab border crossing point and transfer to ancient Merv for sightseeing among the ruins of this former Silk Road capital. Continue on to Ashgabat, check in at your hotel, and spend the night in the capital.
Day 2 — Ashgabat - Kov-Ata - Nokhur - Turkmenbashi
After breakfast, depart for Turkmenbashi. Visit the Kov-Ata underground thermal lake, then continue to the picturesque mountain village of Nokhur. Transfer to Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea, check in at your hotel, and stay overnight.
Day 3 — Turkmenbashi - Yangykala Canyon - Balkanabat - Ashgabat
Following breakfast, transfer to the spectacular Yangykala Canyon and explore its colorful rock formations. Travel via Balkanabat back to Ashgabat, check in at your hotel, and spend the night in the capital.
Day 4 — Ashgabat - Darvaza Gas Crater
Enjoy breakfast and a city tour of Ashgabat, then transfer to the Darvaza Gas Crater, arriving before sunset. Have dinner at a nearby yurt camp and spend time admiring the burning crater. Overnight in a yurt or tent at Darvaza.
Day 5 — Darvaza - Ashgabat
Have breakfast at Darvaza and begin the return journey to Ashgabat, arriving around noon. Spend some time in the capital before a late-night transfer to the international airport and departure from Turkmenistan.
