3-Day Tour: Shavat – Darvaza – Ashgabat – Farab
This 3-day Turkmenistan tour begins at the Shavat border near Khiva and takes you deep into the Karakum desert. Witness the fiery Darvaza Gas Crater at sunset, enjoy kebabs and an overnight in traditional yurts, then wake to the desert sunrise. Continue to the marble capital Ashgabat with its museums, bazaars and the famous Akhal-Teke horse farm before flying to Turkmenabat and crossing the Farab border toward Bukhara.
DAY BY DAY
Day 1 — Shavat Border – Dashoguz – Darvaza
Morning border crossing assistance near Khiva, followed by lunch in Dashoguz. Enjoy a 7-hour drive across the Karakum desert to the Darvaza Gas Crater, the "Gates of Hell". Arrive at sunset for the best view of the burning crater. Dinner and overnight in traditional yurts.
Day 2 — Darvaza – Ashgabat
Morning departure with stops at the Water Crater and the Mud Crater, then a 4.5-hour drive to Ashgabat. After hotel check-in and lunch, enjoy a comprehensive city tour including the National Museum, the Carpet Museum, the ancient ruins of Nisa, the Akhal-Teke horse farm and local bazaars. Traditional dinner and overnight in Ashgabat.
Day 3 — Ashgabat – Flight to Turkmenabat – Farab – Bukhara
Free morning for souvenir shopping and afternoon sightseeing until the flight departure. Take the 18:10 flight to Turkmenabat, then a ground transfer to the Farab border. Cross the border into Uzbekistan and arrive in Bukhara.
