3-Day Turkmenistan Tour: Shavat – Kunya-Urgench – Darvaza – Ashgabat – Farab
This 3-day journey crosses Turkmenistan from the Shavat border to Farab, blending Silk Road history with desert adventure. Explore UNESCO-listed Kunya-Urgench, spend a night beside the fiery Darvaza Gas Crater in a traditional yurt camp, and tour marble-white Ashgabat. The trip ends with an atmospheric night train ride to Turkmenabat before exiting toward Uzbekistan.

DAY BY DAY
Day 1 — Shavat – Kunya-Urgench – Dashoguz – Darvaza
Meet your guide at the Shavat border (please arrive on the Turkmenistan side by 10:00 AM at the latest) and set off for the ancient Silk Road city of Kunya-Urgench, a UNESCO World Heritage site. From there, drive roughly 300 km (about 7 hours with stops) across the Karakum Desert to the Darvaza Gas Crater, the famous "Gates of Hell." Enjoy a dinner of traditional kebabs at a nearby yurt camp and spend the evening at the burning crater listening to your guide's stories. Overnight in yurts or tents at Darvaza.
Day 2 — Darvaza – Ashgabat – Night Train to Turkmenabat
After breakfast, drive about 300 km (3.5 hours) toward Ashgabat, stopping en route at the Water Crater and the Mud Crater. Spend the afternoon sightseeing in Ashgabat, the world's most white-marbled city. In the evening, board the night train to Turkmenabat.
Day 3 — Turkmenabat – Farab
Arrive in Turkmenabat in the morning and spend some time exploring the city. Afterwards, transfer to the Farab border crossing to exit toward Uzbekistan.
