2-Day Turkmenistan Tour from Bukhara
This 2-day tour is perfect for travelers entering Turkmenistan from the Uzbek border who want to discover the country's history, culture, and modern beauty without visiting the Darvaza Gas Crater. You will explore the ancient Silk Road city of Merv, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the dazzling white-marble capital of Ashgabat, one of Central Asia's most remarkable cities. The journey crosses the vast Karakum Desert and combines deep history with striking modern architecture.

DAY BY DAY
Day 1 — Bukhara – Turkmenabat – Merv (UNESCO) – Ashgabat
Meet at the Farab / Alat border crossing between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and complete the usually smooth border formalities. Drive to Turkmenabat for an early lunch, then continue across the Karakum Desert to the ancient Silk Road city of Merv (about 250 km, 4–4.5 hours). Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Merv, visiting the Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum, Erk-Kala, Gyaur-Kala, and other ancient ruins for around two hours. Afterward, drive to Ashgabat via the M37 highway (about 370 km, 4–4.5 hours), arriving in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2 — Ashgabat – Turkmenabat – Farab / Bukhara
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy an Ashgabat city tour (09:30–12:00) visiting the Independence and Neutrality Monuments, Ertogrul Gazi Mosque, the Alem Ferris Wheel, the Wedding Palace area, and panoramic city viewpoints. Drive toward Mary on the express highway (3.5–4 hours) for a lunch stop, then continue to Turkmenabat (about 4 hours), arriving around 20:00. Proceed to the Farab / Alat border crossing, where foreign tourists usually pass quickly in about 20–30 minutes. After crossing into Uzbekistan, take a taxi to Bukhara (1.5–2 hours), arriving between 20:00 and 22:00. End of the tour.
