1 Day Tour: Shavat – Dashoguz – Kunya-Urgench
A classic one-day trip for travelers based in Khiva or Urgench (Uzbekistan) who want to discover the Dashoguz region and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kunya-Urgench in Turkmenistan. You will explore the ancient mausoleums and minaret of Old Urgench with a private English-speaking guide, then end the day with an authentic stop at a local bazaar in Dashoguz. Because the Shavat border closes around 18:00, the schedule is carefully timed so you return in good time.
DAY BY DAY
Day 1 — Shavat Border → Dashoguz → Kunya-Urgench (UNESCO) → Local Bazaar → Shavat Border
Pick-up from your hotel in Khiva/Urgench at 08:00 and drive to the Shavat border, where you meet your personal English-speaking guide on the Turkmenistan side at 10:00 and complete border and visa formalities. After lunch at a local restaurant in Dashoguz, you drive to Kunya-Urgench for a guided visit of the UNESCO highlights: the Kutlug-Timur Minaret, the Il-Arslan, Turabek-Khanum and Najmuddin-Kubra mausoleums and other key monuments of the Ancient Urgench complex. On the way back you stop at the Dashoguz local bazaar for souvenirs, traditional caps (tahya) and handicrafts before returning to the Shavat border before it closes.
